AMI’s 10th European Single Serve Capsules conference was held in Malaga (September 15-17, 2026). Despite relative market maturity in Europe, record-high green coffee prices and impending regulatory changes, the capsules industry proved its strength and resilience, supported by the backbone of innovation. The AMI platform is uniquely privileged with great stakeholder engagement across the value chain, driven by the passion for excellence and progress.
This year the sentiment in the room was a unanimous call for value chain cooperation in light of uncertainty over PPWR implications, demonstrating how a unified front toward industry agency goes beyond competitive advantage.
We invited industry thought leaders such as Nestlé, Lavazza, Delica, European Aluminium Foil Association (EAFA), Mérieux NutriSciences Italia, Capsul'in Pro and Alupak to guide us through the complexities of Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulations articles pertaining to single serve capsules – with a separate deep-dive into Aluminium, recyclable plastics and compostable options.

Aluminium capsules are well asserted within the regulatory framework, which is reflected in an uplift in Nespresso compatible designs as well as R&D projects to assess the use of Aluminium in other designs with polypropylene legacy. The industry is calling for action towards collective efforts to recycle and recover material, as well as to assure more equitable access to recycled alloys.
